The need for food support in communities is
staggering — and growing. According to Feeding America, one in eight people in
Georgia are facing hunger.
A mobile pantry in Cherokee County has found an efficient way to help — by traveling to them.
In 2024 alone, Forever Fed distributed nearly 770,000 pounds of food to underserved people in Cobb and Cherokee counties. The food went to more than 50,000 individuals, including 20,000 children and 7,000 seniors.
"Unfortunately, hunger is everywhere," says Jason Ingram, Forever Fed's Program Director. "Our mission is to ease the burden for those experiencing food insecurity. With our mobile food pantry, we bring food directly to people — with a side of respect, kindness and hospitality."
Founded in 2010, Forever Fed started as a prepared meal ministry and has evolved into a mobile food pantry, adapting to meet the increasing needs of the communities it serves. Each month, the organization hosts seven outdoor food pantries in different locations in metro Atlanta's Cherokee and Cobb counties. At drive-thru locations, guests fill out a form and select which groceries they wish to receive. Volunteers gather the selections and bring them to their vehicle.
Since 2017, Forever Fed has provided more than 4.4 million pounds of food to the community. With just one full-time and two part-time employees, the organization relies on more than 2,000 volunteers each year, including 500 people who serve consistently. The organization also partners with Hillside Church, The Atlanta Community Food Bank, Woodstock City Church, Publix, Aldi, Wal-Mart, Costco, Sprouts, Sam's Club, and many other churches for resources, food, and support.
In addition to the mobile pantry program, Forever Fed delivers food to homes of mostly seniors once a month who lack transportation or face mobility challenges. Forever Fed also provides food to children at three Cherokee County elementary schools. The "Weekend Bag Program" provides three dinners, two lunches, two breakfasts, and snacks per child in need — ensuring they don't go hungry over the weekend. This year, Forever Fed supports 200 students identified by school counselors, up from 40 last year.
"It was a big leap, but we found a way to make it happen," says Jason. "There continues to be a need for nutritious, desirable foods available close to home. We're committed to providing that support to our communities."
